CHAPTER LXXXV.
An Act to amend the Revised Statutes, entitled an  act
concerning slaves and free persons of color.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of
North Carolina, and it is heireby enacted by ithe anthori-
ty of thesame, That the seventy seventh scction of the said nterinar-
Revised Statutes shall not be so construed as to extend riage.
to cases of intermarriage between slaves and free persons
of color by and with the consent of the imiaster or mistress
of the slaves, had before the passage of this act.
[Ratified the 9th of January, 1845.1
CHAPTER LXXXVI.
An Act to prevent free negroes and miulattoes from  traflic-
ing in ardent spirits.
Jeit cuadced by the Gcueral ussenbly of the State
of Noth Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the au-
thority of the same, That hereafter it shall not be lawful
for any free negro or mulatto,-in this State, to sell, either
directly or indirectly, any ardent spirits to any person what-
ever: Provided, that any free negro or mulatto shall be
permitted to sell any ardent spirits that may have been
made by him or her.
Sac. II. Beit further enacted, That for any violation of
ithis act, the person so offending shall, for the first offence
