CHAPTER      CXXIII.
AN ACT to 'alter the name of Simon Davi4, and to legitimate him.
.,Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Xtate of North Carolina,
pnd it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from and af-
ter the passage of this ac', Simon Davis, commonly styled Simon Gentry,-tnn il-
)egitimate son of Shadrick Gent ry of Person.county, hy his late wife, he, and he
is hereby legitimated. by the name of Simon(Gentrvj *and by that iname, shall
sue and b sted, plead and be impicaded, and shall-be capale offrtkna property
by descent from his father, in as full and ample a mantr,ithough he was born
in lawful wedlock.

AN ACT-to legitiatte 'Ihomias Petit of Surry county
Be it enaded by the General Jshcmbly of the Ntate of North Carolina, and
itis hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That, from and aflcr the pas-
,tg, if this act, Thomas Petit of Surry coumty, is hereby declared legitimate;
nud that he shall be known and callvd by the nam' of Thiomis Petil Stnl and
by that name, may sue and he sued, plead and he implended, and receiv e and
tluke property by descent or distribution from his father.
CHAPTER fXXV.
.AN ACT to alter the name of Hardy Lewis and Brittain Lewis, of the county of loore,
and to legitinate them.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and
it j hereby enucted by the authority of the same, That Hardy Lewis and Brit-
tain Lewis, of the county of Moore, illegitimate sons of Jesso Sandprs, shall
hereaher he lnown and distinguished by the names of Hiardy Sanders and
Britamn L. Sanders ; and by that name, shall be 'apable to sue and be stied, plead
and be impleaded in any court within this State ; and by those namres, shall be
legitimated and made heirs at law, to the said Jesse sanders, capable to take, in-
herit, possess tod enjoy, any estate real and personal, which mi ay be devised or
descend to them from the said Jesse Snuders, in as fll and am ple a manner, to
all intents and purposes, as if the said Hardy and 1 ittain had been born in law.
(ul wedlock: any law to the contrary notwithstanding.
CHAPTER CXXVI.
AN ACT for the better regulation of the town of Nevbern.
Be it enacted by the' General Assembly of the State of North Parolina, and it
is hereby enacted by the authority of the sinie, That the town of Newbern in this
state shall hereafter consist of five wards; the first shall begin at the south east
corner of the court house in said town, and run thence northwardly along the
east sidte of middl street io Trent river, thence down said river, to Nense river,
at union point; thence up Neuse river to the south side of broad steet; thence
up the sowh side of b)road street to the beginning; and shall be styled the -first
wa'd   The second shall begin at the north-east corner of tht court house
and run thence eastwardly along broad street, to Neuse river; thence up Netse
river to queen stree* ; thence along queen street to its north-cst intersection %% ith
Graves street; thence along the cast side of Graves streetto its jutictiot with
middle street; thence along the east side o middle street to the beginnins; and
shall be styled the  secon(l ward   The third shall bogn at the sl? fhi-west
corner of the court house. and run thence southivartly tlung the west side (f
middle street to Trent river; thence up the river to Georce street; theine along
