them, arc hereby authorised to appropriate twenty fit e a'crcs of law, 'it the
place aforesaid, (first having obtainetd the consent of the owners theretoj)
and to lay off the same in convenient lots of such size as they may deem.
proper, with such number of streets and alleys as to thein may seeim nd-
visable; which lots, when so lail oft the said commtissiororrs o' a majority
of them shall sell at public sale Upon sutch terms and condition  as may be
prescribed by the owners tf the land aforesaid.
111. Be it f]trther enucled, That the proceeds of the Fale of the iota
aforesaid shall be paid over by the said commiasiouers to the o(wt1,ers of the
land afptesaid, as a full clnpensalion for the land hurk-by authto: ised to be
appropriated to the said town; upon the 1iaerit of wli.'h, the s~idi owner%
shall execute to the purchaser or purchnsers of the said lots a good and suf-
ficient title in fee simple for the lots so purchased as alloresaid.
CHAPTER, CLXXXIV.

Be it enacted by thc General .aJssembly of the Sta'e of .orth Carolina.
and it is hereby euacled by the outhorily ?)f /he sanlu, Thot t ri   an   ;)-
ter the passing of this act, it shall be the duly of the Court of Pleas and
Quarter Sessions for the county of Washitgton, shouh they leel it neces-
sary, at the first court held fo said county after the first day of January
next, and in each and every yar thereafelr, to a ppoi it a latrol for the
town of Plymouth, not exeeeding five persons, nor less than three. whose
duty it shall be to patrol said town at least once a week and as much often-
eras shall b deemed necessarv, subject to the ,ame rules and regulations
as are already prescribed by law for patrols.
II. Be itfit her enacted, rhat the said patrtol shall be allowed for their
services a sum ntt ecceeding lifreen dollars, nor less thap five dollars, at
the discretion of the court; and that the court shall he aulhorize d to lay a
tax on the ilack polls within the limits of said town at the time other taxes
are laid, for the pur..pose of paying said patrol.
I1. flnd be it /urther enacted That if the said patrol should fail or
neglect to performl the duty of patrol, they shall forfeit and Iay the sum of
ten dollars, to be recovered by warrant before any justice of the peace of
said county.
