I1. .nd be it further enacted, That a credit of one and two years sh&4
be given all such person or persons who may become purchaserA t one or
more lots or pa'rcels of lands aforesaid, upon such person or ljbis Igiv-
ing bond, with two or more securities such as shall be approved by 'the said
Comiissioners.
IV. and be it ftrther enacted, That the monies arising from the sale of
said town common , when collected, shall be paid into the Ti-easiury at said
town, and shall be appropriated by the said commissioners to such puI poses
as they shall think most conducive i the general interest of said corporation,

Be it enacted by the General A/ssernbly of the StMIe of North Carolina,
and it is hereby enacted by the athority of the samte, That the County
C ourts of the severaI couniies aforesaid, not less than tell justices buing
present, shall have full powei and authority  henever -at isfactory inforitma-
lion is lodgetd before them that runaway slaves have collected togethet in
their county, and are conuinitting depredation, on thte citizienis of i the
county, to direct the colonel of cotnanding-ollicer of the county, toi or-
det out as many men as oaid court may deem expedient for ppir eiheiatdig such
runaways; and it shall he the duty ol such commanding othieer imnuidimately
to draft from the militii, or receive volunteers, in stich number as the tourt
inay direct, and order thent into service; and it shall be the duty of the oli-
cers and men thus ordered out to search diligently throughout the county,
or any adjoining county if deeied necessary, hor such runaways, until they
-re taken: Provided, that no one company shall be compelled to remnain on
duty longer than twenty days at any one time.
II. Be it further enacted, That each person whlo may he ordered out as
aforesaid, shall furnish his own provinons, gun and ammunition, and shall be
paid for his service at the following rates, viz. each captain of a compily
one dollar per day, each lieutenant seventy live cents per day, and each ri-
vate, or inferior officer lifty cents per (lay, to be paid as hereinafter specihed.
111. Be itffurther enacted, That any ollicer or private wtho shall be ortder-
ed to perform duty as aforesaid, ind shall fail to perdoi in the same, and to
obey all reasonable comminds of the superior officer, shall be liable to indict-
metit in any court having cognizance thereof, and on convic ion shall be lined
or imprisoned at the discretion of the court not exceeding a fine of one hun-
dred dollars, or imprisonment for three monh.
IV. Be it further etarted, That if shall be the duty of the County Courts
of the several counties aforesaid, whenever the militia mnAy be oidered. out
as aforesaid, at the same time to lay a tax not exceeding twenty live cents on
each black poll in their county for the purpose of defraying the expenses
thereof; which tax the sheril of the county shall forihwith collect and pay
into the Treasury of the county for the purpisei aforesaid.
V. lei tfurther enacted, That any person who shall hereafter apprehend
any runaway slave over fifteen years of-age in either of the afores .id coun-
ties, and shill deliver him or her to the owner, or the. jailor of the county
at the jail, shall be entitled on teceive and recover fr no !hi ;wner of .-ih
slave the sum of ten dollars, to be recovered before aiky juriadfctiou having
cognizance thereof.
