to direct the clerk to pass upon such deposition, under th same
rules, regulations and restrictions as arp observed by clerks and
masters in chancery, in passing upon depositions to be read in
courts of chancery.
CHAPTIER XXV.

Be it enacted -by the General ./ssenbly of the Slute of North
Carolina, and it is hercby enuctcd by the authority of the 'sane, 01lirt fo

That from and after the passige of this act, in all petitionthr 1n''11
dower andi partition, hereafter brouiht, the Court before wbom
the same may be tried may at their discretion decree by whom,
and in what manner the cost accrued thereon shall be paid.
II. .A1nd be itffurther enacted, That it slhall not be lawful for the orn
clerk of any Coutty Court to tax in the bill of costs on an- peti- let.
tion for dower a larger attorney's fee than four dollars.
CTAPTER xxvi.
An nct For the inspection of Steam Mill rinber.
Be it enacted by'tihe General .Assenbly of the State of North- w t
Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the amfe, m  ..
That hereafter all steam mill timber, showing heart one hall of
the length, shall be merchantable, and it shall be inspected by
the whartf inspectors; and that no inspectors having a stated salary iy whim C
from the proprietors of the steam mills shall inspect any timber LC ilislice-i
brought to said steam mills, unless by the consent of the seller,
under a penalty of fifty dollars, one half to the use of the in-
former, and the other half to the use of the county.

That so much of the second section of the above recited act, as
authorises the fioard of Internal Improvement to employ a civii
engineer, be, anti the same is hereby repealed.
CHAPTEIR XXVIll.
An act conicrning the netiothn of replev'iin.
Whereas slaves are frequently seduced fi'on the possession of
their owners, under a pretence of right by persons who are insol'  
vent, and intend to convey the same beyond the jurisdiction of
the Courts of this State, whereby great injury is produced to the
bona title holder of slaves; and whereas the writ of sequestration
issuing from Courts of' Equity in such cases, is a tedious, expen-
sive, and frequently inellectual remedy:
