That the several 8uperior Courts bf Law in North-Cardlina
shall have full power, in the trial of actions before them, on
motioki anid due notice thereof being given, to require thsi pare
ties to produce. books or writings in their possession 'or power
*which cuIntain evidence pertinent to the issue. in cases and un.
der circumstances, when they might be co.mpelled wo produce
f11plaintifrfail the same by the ordinary rules of proceeding in chancery.;
to produce  if a plaintiff shall fail to comply with such order to produc.

defendant  motion, to give the like judgnient forthe defendarit as in cases of

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North.
Siesorslaves Carolina. and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same,
and inna to That hereafter all sales of.slaves or land inade by any sheriff,
take place at c'ironer, constable,'or by any clerk and master in equity, under
the 0t houses. any execution or decree, shali be made at the court-house of.
their respective cou nties; and such sales may commence and
Wei  b, be made on any .Monday in any week, and if. the property levi-
continu  - ed on under any'execution, for want of tirthe, shall not.,be all
from day to. sold on the Monday, or if property levied on under. other
executions cannot.be offered by reason that the sale first, co.-
menced is not completed for w nt of time, all such sales may,
be adjourned to the next day.-an4 the property remaining an-
sold oa the Tuesday, may, under the same.circuistances, be
sold on the next day, and a sales ziot then completed, ravbe
adjourned to the Monday of the ensuing week; and, all such
sales shall commence between'the hours of ten and four o'clock
