CHAPTER CVI.
RESOLUTIONS AND REPORT adopted by the Legislature
of the State of Mississippi, on the subject of the Direct
Tax, imposed by the Congress of the United States.
Resolved by the Legislature of the State of
Mississippi, That our Senators in Congress be Relativetore.
instructed,and our Representatives requested, mission of
special tax
to bring to the attention of Congress, the levie on the
equity and propriety of remitting the special State in 186.
tax o' $413,084 66, Jevied upon this State, by
an act approved August 6,1861.
Resolved further, That in the event of Con-
gress refusing to remit said tax, either in part
or in whole, this State desires to assume, and
does hereby assume to pay such sun as shall
he determined; and the Governor is hereby
authorized to take the necessary steps for said
assumption.
Resolved further, [hat a copy of the Re-
port of the Joint Connuittee on State and
Federal Relations, oi this sulject, be fnrii-
ished to our Senators and Representatives in
(ongress, which Report is hereby adopted.

END)ERAL RELATIONS.
The joint conunittee on State and Federal
relations, beg leave to make the following re-
port upon the subject of the direct tax im-
posed by the Congress of the United States,
upon the several States, andthe action proper
to be taken by the State of Mississppi, with
regard thereto; a consideration of which sub-
ject and action was referred to this committee
by resolution from the House of Iepreseuta-
tives.

acts of Congress, referring to this subject, is
