CHAPTER OXIV.
A  ACT to authoriz NarcissgtL. Barksdale to emancipate her
slave John,
WunIEms, ThedIate.Brigadier General William
Barksdale, who was killed at the battle of Gettys-
burg, while nobly leading on his brigade, had with
him a trusty negro servant named John, who re-
mained on the field, faithfully attached to the per-
son of. his master; and whereas, said negro
servant John. disdaining to receive .his liberty
from  the hands of the murderers of his mastcr,
and did return to the fnmily of his said master.
Therefor,.
I SECTION 1. Be it enacted by he Legislature of
the State of Mississippi, That Narcissa L. Barks-
dale, Widow and sole legatee of the said William
Barksdale, be and she is hereby authQrized by her
last will and testament to emancipate said slave
John, to take effect at her death.
SEC. 2. li0 it farther ena6ted. That this act
shall take effect and be in. force from and dfter its
passage.
Approved, December 7, 1863.
CHAPTER CXV.
AN ACT to authorize the repair of. the Mobile and Ohio Rail-
raad between Okalona and Saltillo, in this State, and for
other purposes.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Logislature of
the State of Mississppi, That the ,Governor of the
State or his duly authorized agent is hereby author-
ized to make without delay, such a contract, on
such terms as he may think right and just, f6r the
speedy repairs of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad
from Okalona to Saltillo, and so much beyond
Saltillo as-lie may think the military services or the
proper defense of the State requires.
