CHAPTER IX.
AN ACT to compensato soldiers in the'State service, in certain
cases.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of0
the State of Mississippi, Thai each and every sol-
dier in the State service shall be entitled to receive
the valuatioi price of 'his horse or gun ,4hen the
horse is killed in action or lost by captuie of the
enemy, and when such capture is not chargeable to
the neglect or default of said ;soldier, anid upon
sufficient proof being made in writibg of such loss
and attested by a commiqsioned' officer, and ap-
proved by the commanding bilicer, the quarter-
master-general shall pay to the soldier the valua-
tion of his horse or gun, and should the horse or
gun so lost not have.been valued, the same remu-
neration -shall be allowed for said loss as is now
allowed by the Confederate Government in such
cases, aid he shall also receive the same compensa-
tion for the use of his horse and gun while in ser-
vice, that is now allowed by the las 'of the
Confederate, States, and that this act apply to all
cases coming within its perview, whether the same
shall have taken place either before or alter its
passage.
SEc. 2. Be it further enacted, That this act take
effect and be in force from and after its passage.
