CHAPTER CCCLXXII.
A MEMORIAL of the Legislature of the State of Mississip-
pi to the Congress of tile United' States, in rolation to the
establishment of a Navy Yard at the Bay of Biloxi, in
said State.
WHEREAS, There Is a large amoHt of Sipping
engaged in conunerce upon the waters of the GIulf
of Mexico to ports of the United States, as well
ais those of foreign countries, of great present value,
and of growing importance and whereas there is
needed some central point where the same may bc
built. repaired and sheltered, and whereas the mate,
rial therefor may be cheaply, easily and conveni -
ently had at the month of the Bay of Biloxi, in
said State of Mississippi; and whereas a govern-
ment Navy Yard is there needed, as well for domes-
tie convenience and protection as for general use
and deface,
Be it therej ore rcsolved by iMe Legislat'ure of
the State ct Mis8sippi, That our Senators in
Congress be instructed: and onr Representatives le
requested to procure the establishment of a goV-
ernment Navy and Dock Yard at or near I he
mouth of the Bay of Biloxi, in the State of Mis-
sissippi. and that they urge upon thesaiI Congress
the uecesst therefbr, arising out of the great and
growing shipping interests upon the central waters
of the Guhf of Mexico.
Be it furthei r, solvcd, 'Thuat the Governor cause
to be taIsm itteil to each of our Senators and
Representatives in Congress a copy of the fore-
going m nemorial and resolutions.
