handle is hein.slavery/ssactsms0361 and id is 1 raw text is: LAWS OF MISSISSIPPI. infringed thereby agaiist their consent, and said South Western Telegraph Company, may con- struct or acquire and maintain telegraph lines to any town, or city, or other point, or between any two points, within this State, over any of the pub- lic roads or highways thereto, and shall have the right to maintain, and operate any and all of their said lines of telegraph in and during the longest period mentioned in said original act of incorpora- tion, provided that nothing herein shall be so con- strued as to prevent the incorporation at any time hereafter, of any other telegraph companies, with the privilege of constructing lines upon any routo occupied by said South Western Telegraph Com- pany, such as will not conflict or interfere with the line or lines by said company established and used, or upon any other route which the legislature may see fit to designate, Provided, that nothing in this act shall be so construed as to prevent any railroad company on such line of telegraph, from erecting and operating a telegraph ;on or along such railroad. SEc. 4. Be it further enacted, That in order to the construction and extension of their lines of telegraph, said corporation shall be entitled to raise its capital stock to any sum not exceeding one million of dollars, at such time or times, and in such manner, as a majority in interest of the stockholders may appoint. SEc. 5. Be it further enacted, That this act shall take effect aid be in force from and after its passage. Approved, Feb. 7, 1860. CHAPTER CCC. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That Ann Mataw, a free woman of color, be and she is hereby authorized to select an owner in the manner hereinafter 352
