section sixteen, (16) in township nine, (9) of range
fourteen (14) east, lying in the county of Kemper,
in the State of Mississippi, made by the board of
school commissioners for said county, in the year
1847; shall be, and the same are hereby declared
to be valid and elfectual; and shall vest a' good
title for theterms of the leases, in the lessees, their
heirs and assigns-any irregularityin the proceed-
ings under which the leases were made to the con-
trary notwithstanding.
S~c. 2. Be it further enacted, That all laws
coming in confhit with the provisions of this act,
be, and the same are hereby repealed.
SEC. ,i. B   it turther enarted, That this act
take effect and be in force from and after the date
of its approval.

CHAPTER CLXVIII.
AN ACT to regulate the trial of Slaves in capital cases.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of
the State of Mississippi, That in the trial of slaves
for capital offences under the laws of this State,
they shiall have all the privileges andl right now
secured by law, and when convicted, shall have
writs of error to the High Court of Errors and
Appeals, in the same manner, an(] to the saine ex-
tent, that -the same are now secured to white per-
sons in this State.

CHAPTER      CLXIX.
RESOLUTION granting leave of absence to Hfon. Thos. J.
Wharton.
Resolved, That leave of absence, not to exceed
three months in each year, be granted to the lon.
Thomas J. Wharton, for the years 1860 and 1861.
