LAWS OF MISSISSIPPI.
CHAPTER CLIY..
AN ACT In relation to the estate of John Hinton, a .free man of colordo-
ceased.
SEC. 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Mississippi, That the state of Mississippi
hereby relinquishes all right. title.and c6laim, in
and to the property and effects of John Hinton, a
free man of color, late of the county of Lowndes,
deceased, to James Whitfield of said county.
, SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, That this act
shall take effect and be in force from and after its
passage.
Approved Dec. 3, 1858.
CHAPTER CLV.
AN ACT to amend an act, entitled an act in relation to justice of the peace.
SEC. 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Mississippi, That the justices of the peace
shall have power to fine and imprison any person
guilty of a contempt of their court while sitting,
but such fine shall not exceed fifty dollars for each
offence, nor shall such imprisonment continue
longer thah two days, and if any person shall re-
fuse to be sworn, or to give evidence in said courts,
or to obey or perform any rule, order, or judgment
of the court, such court shall have power to fine
the person so offending in any sum not exceeding
fifty dollars, and to imprison such person until he
shall give evidence, or until the rule, order or
judgment shall be complied with, and all fines im-
posed, by virtue of this act, shall be collected by
execution, as inother cases, and paid over by such.
justice, or by the officer collecting the same, to the
treasurer of the county, and that this act, shall
take effect from its passage.
