CHAPTER 1.
AN ACT to aid In repairing and perfeetlh the Leven of the Misissippi
River in the Counties of DeSoto,  imica, Coallozna, Boliviu, Washington
and Issaquena.
Smc. 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the  Tam
State of Mississippi, That there be, and is hereby faisele
levied and assessed a uniform tax of ten cents an
acre, per annum, on each and every acre of land
in this. State lying east of the Mississippi River,
and north of the southern lineof Issaquena coun-
ty, west of the Yazoo and Tallahatchie Rivers, to.
the confluence of Tallahatchie and Cold Water
Rivers, thence north and west of little Tallahatchie
to the mouth of Melvers creek, in the county of
Panola, thence north with the base of the hills
skirting the bottom in the coiinties of Panola, Tu-
nica, anid DeSoto, to Horne Lake ;' thence west,
meandering with said lake, and the pass of the
same, to the Mississippi river, except lands held by
the State in trust, o otherwise, and school lands-
now  exempt from taxation; which tax shall be
continued for the period of five .years, and shall
be payable annually, on or before the first day of
April in each and every year, from the first pf
April, 1859, to the first of April 1863, inclusive ;
Pr ovided, That this act shall not be construed so
as to embrace any of the Chickasaw School lands,.
