CHAPTER LXV.
AN ACT to prevent the sale of vinous and spirituous liquors near Ebenezer
Church in Holmes county.
Sim. 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of JMississippi, That if any person shall sell
vinous or spirituous liquors of any kind, or in any
quantity, except for sacramental purposes, or for
medical purposes on the written recommenda-
tion of a practising physician that it is neces-
sary, within one mile of Ebenezer, a Methodist
church in Holmes county, he shall be liable to a
fine of twenty dollars for each offence, to be sued
for and collected before a Justice of the Peace, by
any person who will sue for the same, for the use
of the common school of the- township in which
said church is situated.
SEc. 2. Be it further enacted, That it shall not
be lawful for the Board of Police of Holmes
county to grant a license to any person to sell vi-
nous or spirituous liquors in violation of this law.
Sc. 8. Be it further enacted, That this act
shall take effect and be in force from and after its
passage.

LXVI.
RESOLUTIONS in relation to Kansas,
Resolved, (the House concurring,) That the Leg-
islature of the State of Mississippi adopt and re-
iterate the resolutions condemning the course of
R. J. Walker, Governor of Kansas, passed by the
Convention of the Democratic party of this State
at the city of Jackson, in June last, which are as
follows, to-wit: Whereas, Governor Walker in
his inaugural address to the people of Kansas
Territory, declared it to be his clear conviction
that unless the Convention-called by law to
form a constitution for that territory- submit the
constitution to the vote of all the actual settlers of
