CHAPTER 12.

WHEREAS, it is represented to the legislature of
the State of Mississippi, that Thomas R. Thmr-
mond, late of Holmes county, deceased, died, pos-
sessed of about forty slaves, many of whom are
children, and a plantation, stock, &c., and left
ten children, the most of whom are young- and
that said Thurmond died in debt; and it being
further represented to the legislature that it is to
the interest of said T. R. Thurmond's heirs that
said administrators be authorized to cultivate
said plantation with said slaves, &c., therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of .Misssippi, That Powhattan B. Thurmond
and Drury A. Saffold, administrators of the estate
of Thomas B. Thurmond, deceased, be, and they
are hereby authorized and empowered to cultivate
the plantation of said decedent with his slaves,
stock, tools, &c., for the term of five years from
and after the passage of this' act, if they may deem
it so long advisable; and they are hereby further
empowered to buy the qecessary supplies, stock, &c.
to cultivate said plantation; Provided, however,
that this act shall not be construed to deprive any
heir or distributee of said intestate's estate, of the
right to petition the probate court of the proper
county, for division or distribution thereof, at any
time after the expiration of twelve months from
the granting of letters of administration thereon.
SEc. 2. Be itffurther enacted, That this act shall
take effect and be in force from and after its pas-
sage.
