CHAPTER 109.
A ACT to regulate thalaying out and working of Roads. the catablishment of
Ferries and the erection of Bridge,
SECTION I.
Of the laying out of Roads.
retiton Ar  AnT. 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
layig out State of ..Vississip ', That when any person
nc      or persons shall ( esire to have any public road
teren~.  laid out. altered or chinaged. a petition shall he pre-
sented to the board of police of the comity, signed
by ten or more freeholders or householders of the
county interested in such road; setting forth the
commencement. and termination, and generfM cours-,
thereof. and that the public   interest or conve-
nience requires such road to be laid out and open-
ed, or altered or changed, as shown in the petition;
and the petitioners, if not the owners of the land
through which the road runs, or is proposed to rin,
shall give live (ays notice to the owners of such
land, in personi or by leaving the same at their res-
idence, if they reside in he county, or if the own-
ers of the land be ion-residents of the county, then
by putting up such notice in some conspicuous place
on the land through which the road runs, or is pro-
posed to run: and thereupon the board of police
shall hear the parties, and if they determine thiat
the prayer of the petitioners ought to be granted.
in whole or in part, they-shall appoint seven disin-
terested freeholders. residents of the county, to be
commissioners,-who shall proceed to examine and
view the contemplated route of said road; and if
they find the same practicable, to lay out and mark
the same, or the alteration or change required to
be made, and shall make report of their proceed-
ings to the next meeting of the board. A majority
