SEc. 4. Be it further enace, That this act shall
take effect and be in force from  and after its pas-
sage.

CHAPTER 288.
AN ACT to amend the seventh section of an act passed on the 26th
of February, 1842, in relation to Free Negroes and Mulattoes, so
far as the same relates to the county of Madison.
SECTION 1. JSe it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Mississippi, That the seventh section of the
above mentioned act be and the samne is hereby
amended, so as to apply only to the number of ne-
groesiover and above the age of sixteen years.
Approved February 25, 1854.
CHAPTER 289.
AN ACT to establish a Ferry across Yazoo River, at the residence
of Racbael Byrnie, in the county of Sunflower, and for other pur-
poses.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Mississippi, That Rachael Byrnie have
granted to her, and her assigns, the privilege of
erecting and keeping a ferry across the Yazoo river,
at her residence thereon, in the county of Sunflower.
to the most eligiblo point on the opposite bank, in
the county of Carroll, and shall receive all tolls and
sharges established for transporting passengers, car-
riages &c.
Exc. 2. Be it futher enated, That all of the provi-
nions ofuthe second section of an act entitled An
act to establish a ferry across the Yazoo river, at
