CHAPTER 71.
AN ACT to amend the 2d section of an act entitled an act to pre-
vent the importation and spreading of the Small ox and other
contagious diseases, passed June 10, 1822.
SECTION 1. Br it enacted by the Lrgislature of
the State of Mississippi, That the second section of
the above recited act shall not be so construed as
to extend to the paymont of any apothecary or phy-
sician's bill; other than such as are required for the
use of those persons who may come within the lim-
its of this State infected vith any of the contagious
diseases described in the act, of which this act is
amendatory, except for vaccine matter to be used as
a preventive to small pox.
SEc. 2. Be it further enacted, That this act take
effect and be in force from and after its- passage.

CHAPTER 72.
AN ACT entitled an not to amend the Levee Laws of Coahoma
county.
Levee      SEcTION 1. Be it enacird by the Lrgslature of the

sioner a  State of Mississippi, That the President of the Board
be ap-  of Police of Coahoma county shall be and he is
pointed,  hereby required to convene said Board, on the first
Monday of May next, for the purpose of appointing
(in lieu of the Board of Levee Commissioners now
provided for by law,) a single Levee Commissioner,
who, when appointed, shall hold his office under such
restrictions as are hereinafter prescribed, for the
term of two years.
SEc. 2. Be it frther enacted, That a majority of
said Board of Police shall be qualified to act, but no
one shall be appointed Levee Commissioner for said
county, unless he shqli receive the votes of- at least
three of the members of said Board of Police, a re-
cord of whose names, with their votes, shall be em-
bodied in the order of appointment, to be i'ecorded
by the clerk of said court.
Bond.     SEc. 3. Be it further gnacted, That said Commis-
sioner, so appointed, shall, within twenty-four hours'
