CHAPTER 124.
AN ACT to regulate the working of public roads, and the building
and repair of bridges in the county of Adams, and for other pur-
poses.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Mississippi, That the board of police of Board of
Adams county be, and said board hereby is empow- Police.
ered to employ some suitable person to superintend
the roads and bridges of said county, and the keep-
ing them in good traveling order and repair.
SEc. 2. Be it further enacted, That the Presi-
dent of said boaid shall annually give public notice, To give
by advertisement, in some public newspaper, print- notice.
ed in said county, for at least two weeks, next pre-
ceeding the spring term of said board, that said
board will, at its said spring meeting, receive sealed
proposals from any competent person or persons,
stating the amount such person or persons are wil-
ling to receive as an annual salary for the discharge
of the duties of superintendant of roads and bridges
in said county, as provided for in this act, which
sealed propoposals shall be accompanied by the
name of such person or persons, as the party bid-
ding shall propose to give as security, on his offi-
cial bond, required by the provisions of this act.
SEc. 3. Be it further enacted, That in the ac-
ceptance of such proposals and the employment of so
such superintendent, said board shall have regard tenden-
as well to the fitness and competency of such ap-
plicant to perform the duties of said office of super-
intendent, as to the terms or salary 'proposed to be
received: Provided, The amount of such salary to
be allowed by said board, shall, in no case, exceed
the sum of fifteen hundred dollars for the first ap-
pointment made under this act, nor the sum of one
thousand dollars for any subsequent appointment.
SEc. 4. Be it further enacted, That before entering
upon the duties of his office as herein provided for, %Bond o
