Lake, near the northern boundary of this State, and
running down said lake, and the bayou to the Mis-
sissippi river, or as near as the security of said
levee will justify, and thence down said river, on
the most favorable ground for said levee, to the
lower line of said county; all of which shall be
commenced and carried on in the same manner as
presc.ribed for the location, construction and comple-
tion of the levee in Tunica county: Provided, howe-
ver, The boqrd of police of smid county of De Soto
should think it prudent not to engage in said work,
this act shall not be obligatory in said county.
SEC. 15. And be it further enacted, That this act
take effect and be in force from and after its
passage.

CHAPTER 153.
AN ACT for preserving and repairing Levees in the counties of
Washington.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Mississippi, ! That the president of the
board of police for the county of Washington, shall
call a meeting of said board of police, to be held at
the court-house of said county on the first Mondays
of May and September next, after the passage of
this act; and said board of police shall meet on the
first Mondays in May and September in each year
hereafter, and shall, at their first meeting in May of
every year, divide the lands lying and fronting on
the Mississippi river in said county into levee dis-
tricts, no one of which districts shall contain more
