and. for the-purpose of erecting a light house to
facilitate, commerce, to be styled Biloxi light
house, therefore:
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Mississippi, That this State hereby relin-
quishes to the government of the United States ju-
risdictioni over the afore-described lot or parcel of
ground for the purpose aforesaid.
SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, That the afore-de-
scribed lot or parcel of ground shall remain in the
pr- -  -f the government of the United States,
and be exempt from taxation so long as the same
shall, in good faith, be used for the purposes afore-
said, and no longer.
SEC. 3. And be, itfurther enacted, That this act
shall take effect from its passage.
Approved February 1, 1848.
CHAPTER 24.
AN ACT making certain apppropriations therein named.
SECTIoN 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
Sta'e of Mississippi, That the fbllowing sums be
allowed and paid out of any money in the treasury
not otherwise appropriated, viz:
Article 1. To John Rayburn, agent of the State J. Raybum
of Mississippi, appointed to guard and protect the
State lands, the sum of eighty dollars.  ($80.)
Art. 2. James Smith, for furnishing and fitting up Jas. Smid..
two gate lumps in front of the capitol, the sum of
two hundred dollars. ($200)
-Art. 3. To John T. Hull, for sundry candlesticks, J. T. Hal
