law to purchase, possess and be seized, in their own
use, of all the lands, tenements and hereditaments,
in fee simple, or for other less estate, not exceeding
the value of fifty thousand dollars, and goods and
chattels of any description, not exceeding the value
of twenty-five thousand dollars, and may iilien and
dispose of the same at pleasure.
SEC. 2. Be it fr:ther enacted, That the said offi-
cers and members may, in their corporate capacity,
sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, contract
and bo'contracted with, and shall have power to
make such by-laws as they may deem necessary
for their order and good government, not inconsis-
tent with the laws and constitution of this State, or
of the United States.
SEc. 3. And be it further enacted, That said
lodge may have and use a common seal, and alter
and change the same at pleasure, and do and per-
form such acts as are incident to bodies corporate
and politic.

AN ACT for the relief of Louisa Williams and her children.
WHEREAS, it is ascertained, upon sufficient proof,
that Louisa Williams of Issaquena county, and her
children, are of pure white blood and natives of the
United States, and that the said Louisa was defrau-
ded of her birthright in her infancy, and was held,
reared and sold as a slave; and whereas, she has
