CHAP. LX.
AN ACT, to emancipate certain slaves therein named.
WH EREAS: the owners of 'certain slaves herein*
after r amed, have petitioned the Legislature to
emancipate said slaves, and given satisfactory
evidence of their good character-Therefore,
Sec. 1. Be itenacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives of the State of Mississippi, in Ge-
neral.Assembly convened,, That negro Edward or
Ned, the property of Elizabeth Bolls, Jim    or
James,, rances or Franky, the property' of the
Heirs of Jasper St. Clair, deceased, late of the
county of Jefferson, Jane and her child Emily, the
property of the heirs of Robert Boardman, deceas-
ed, late of Warren county, Sucky or Susan, and
her child Orville, the property of Limerick Hig-
don, of Adams county, Reuben the property of the
minor heirs of Thomas JeffersonFerguson, dedeas-
ed, late of Warren county, all in the state of Mis-
sissippi, are of right and the same negroes are
hereby declared free, and in possession of all the
rights, privileges and immunities of free negroes
in this state; provided:
Sec. 2. That it befurther enacted, By the au
thority aforesaid, that the said late slaves by them-
selves or free white citizens of said state, shall en-
ter into bond satisfactory to the Probate Court of
their respective counties,, that they never shall be-
come charges on the people of said state, and tlat
they shall while they remain inhabitants, demean
themselves peaceably and orderly, provided: that
said negroesie confined to the counties in which
they now.live or leave this state.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That nothing
in this act shall be so. construed as to impair the
right of creditors.
Sec. 4. And be itfurther enacted, That Thom-
as C. Holmes shall be permitted to emancipate his
