CHAP. LVIII,
AN ACT, to divide the olice of Assessor and collector of taxes in
the counties of Madison and Hinds.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House
of ?Rpresentatives of the state of 1Wssissppi, in
General Aisemnbly convened, That it shall be the
duty of the Governor of this state, to appoint re-
spectable persons as Assessors of taxes, in and for
the counties of Madison and Hinds, vho shall en-
ter into bond in the sum of two thousand dollars
to be approved by the Judge of Probate fqr the
said counties, payable to the Goveriqor of the state
for the time being, and his successors in office,
conditioned for the faithful performance of their
duties according to law, and other persons to be
collectors of taxes for said counties, who shall en-
ter into bond as heretofore required of Assessors
and Collectors in and for said counties, whose du-
ties shall be the same as heretofore provided by
law.
Sec. 2. Alnd. be it further enacted. That the
Assessors and Collectors appointed under this act,
shall receive the same compensation for their ser-
vices as is by. law allowed to Assessors and Col-
lectors of taxes for performing similar services.
