actually subscribed for each incorporated bank In
the state, to be returned on oath by the president or
Proviso, cashier of such bank. Provided, That this act shall
not be so construed as to authorize the assessing and
collecting of any tax on the estate, real or persona),
of any religious society, or the real or personal estate
of any institution for the education of youth, or the
maintainance of schools, or charitable purposes, or
on any estate, real or personal, belonging to any in-
corporate city or town, or a poll tax on any officer
or soldier in the service of the United States.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the assessors
Assessor's of taxes shall receive five per cent. on the amount of
fees.  their assessments: Providcd. That no assessor shall
receive more than three hundred dollars, nor less
than one hundred dollars.
Sec. 3. And be ilfurther enacted, That the first and
Repealing sixth sections of the act entitled, ,An act concerning
clau-e. the revenue, passed the 5th day of February, 1818.
and all acts and parts of acts repugnant to, and in-
consistent with this act, be, and the same are hereby
repealed.
