to take the Census of the State of Mis-
sissippi.
SEc. I. Be it enacted by the Senate and
House of Representatives of the state of
Aississippi in general assemhbil convened,
That it is made the duty of the asses-
sor of each county to make an exact to take cen,
enumeration of all the free white inha- sus.
bitants and people ofcolor of his coun-
ty, for which he shall receive two cents
for each head or person, to be comput-
ed by the speaker of the house of re-
presentatives, at the next session of the
general assembly, and paid by the trea-
sury of the state, on a certificate of the
speaker to the auditor, who shall
thereupon issue his warrant.
Suc. 2, And be it further enacted, That To make
all returns of assessors, under this act, return to se-

as may be. And said returns shall be
so made as to show distinctly and se-
parately the number and names of all
persons liable to pay a state tax: the
number of white males not liable to
