AN4 ACT
,duthorizing the affment and collection of a tax
on the inhabtants of the county of Amste,for
defraying the expence of erecting a Court houfe,.
Yadt and Stocks in aid county, and for other
purpofes.
SECTION IAf.    BE it enacted by'iheLegif-
lative Council and Houfe of R eprefentatives of the
Mississippi Territorv in General A  mbly con-
vened, That the following tax ibll be impof-
ed on the laid counts, for the year one thoufand
cight hundred and nine, in addition to the ter-
ritorial taxfor the purpofe of ereinmg a court
houle, jail and flocks, to wit : 'twenty-five
cents on all free males above the age of twenty
one years; twenty-five cents on all flaves, and
on every hundred dollars value of land ; twelve
and a half cents'to be levied and colle6ted by
the tax colle6tor of (aid county, at the 'fame
time and in the fame manner as is dire&ed by
law for the colledion of the territorial tax, and
it thall be the duty of the tax colleaor 'for (aid
county to pay over to the commiflioners, ap-
pointed by law to contra& for building a court
boufe, jail and flocks in (aid county, the a-
mount of monies by him colle&ed for the pur-
poles aforetaid, on or before the firft day of
Apr!, one thoufand eight hundred and ten ,
and on failure to to do the commillioners ap-
pointed as aforefaid, or a majority of them tball
have the fame mode of proceedings and reco-
very againft the faid colleaor, as is by law gi-
ven to the auditor of public accounts againft
tax colledors, and the colledor of laid county
fhall be allowed feven and a half per centuna
by the laid commiaieners on the amount of the
