COL. JOHN W. DAVIDSON: COMPLIMENTARY.
Besolved by the House' of Representatives, the Senate concurring
therein :
That we cordially indorse the patriotism and appreciate the distin-
guished services of Brevet Col. John W. Davidson during the recent war,
and that we recommend him for promotion to the position of Brevet Briga-
dier General in the regular army, as a well merited reward to a deserving
soldier.
FREEDMEN'S BUREAU BILL: VETO OF.
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION indorsing the opposition to the veto of the Freedmen's
Bureau Bill.
Resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring
therein:
That the conflict which has existed for the last five years between
loyalty and disloyalty is still pending, and that the safety of the nation
demands that the Government shall be retained in loyal hands.
Resolved second, That in the thirty Senators who voted to sustain the
Freedmen's Bureau bill, vetoed by the President, and in the Union majority
of the House of Representatives of the National Congress who supported
the same and kindred measures, we recognize true and worthy representa-
tives of the principles which saved the country in the late rebellion, and
we tender such Senators and Representatives the hearty support and sym-
pathy of ourselves and our constituents.
Approved February 27th, 1866.
