ceived and receipted for the tax books for the year 1865, and also for books
of several preceding years, upon which taxes are due, and had, in some
cases, collected considerable sums of revenue thereon;
./Ad, whereas, said convention failed to make provision authorizing
county courts to make settlements with said collectors for the amounts so
collected, and to release them from their bonds; therefore,
Be it enacted by the General d8embly of the State of Missouri, as
follow8:
§ 1. That the county courts of this State be and are hereby authorized
and empowered to settle with the collectors of this State, whose offices have
been vacated by an ordinance of said convention, in their respective coun-
ties, for the revenue collected by them on the tax books for the year
1865, and on the other books in their hands for the preceding years,
giving said collectors credit for the amounts so collected, and that said
county courts receive said tax books and place them in the hands of ap-
pointees in said offices, for the collectio of the balances due thereon.
§ 2. That the county courts after making such settlement with said
collectors and allowing the commissions and expenses attending the collec-
tion thereof as now allowed by law, shall cause copies of said settlements
to be certified, and transmitted by the clerk of said courts to the State
Auditor.
§ 3. That said collectors shall, on or before the first Monday of Febru-
ary, 1866, pay into the State treasury the amounts of revenue so collected
and certified to the State Auditor, and that the State Treasurer shall re-
ceipt in duplicate for the amounts so paid in, as now required by law; one
of which shall be filed with the State Auditor within five days after its
date.
§ 4. That said county courts shall, on the production of the proper evi-
dences, that said collectors have complied with the provisions of the foregoing
sections of this act, enter on the records of their courts an order releasing
said collectors from the obligation of their bonds, and cause said bonds to
be cancelled.
§ b. This act to take effect and be in force from and after its pas-
sage.
