§ 3. It shall be the duty of school trustees, or persons authorized to
employ teachers, as far as it shall be deemed judicious to do so, to employ
-disabled and discharged soldiers, or widows, or children of such soldiers,
who possess the proper qualifications to teach our common schools.
§ 4. All teachers,when employed, shall be required to instruct their
pupils in the fundamental principles of the Government of the United
States and of the State of Missouri, and the duties of loyal citizens thereto.
§ 5. This act to be in force from and after its passage.

SHEEP RAISING.
AN ACT to protect sheep raising.

,#Be it enacted by the
follows:

General. assembly of the State of Missouri, as

§ 1. No buck shall be allowed to run at large from the first day of April
until the first day of November, annually. Any person who shall appre-
hend any buck sheep running at large upon any common between the first
day of August and the first day of December, shall catch or cause to be
-caught said bucks and castrate them, provided the provisions of this act
shall not apply to the counties of New Madrid, Pemiscot, Mississippi,
-Camden, Warren, Putnam, Perry, Nodaway, St. Charles, Douglas, Ozark,
Livingston, Audrain, Cape Girardeau, Scott, Ste Genevieve, Saline, Law-
.rence and Laclede.
§ 2. This act to take effect from and after its pasoage.
Approved February 20, 1865.
