AN ACT to amend an act entitled  an act to incorporate the city of Chillicothe.

Attorney.

Be it enacted by the General ./1ssembly of the State of Missouri, as
follows :
§ 1. That the twenty-third section of an act to incorporate the city of
Chillicothe, approved March 1, 1855, be so amended as to read as follows:
The Mayor aad Board of Councilmen shall have power to appoint a City
Register, Assessor, Collector, and such other officers as they may at any time
deem necessary, who shall be sworn faithfully to discharge the duties of
their office, and shall, when required, give bond with satisfactory security to
the corporation for the due performance of their respective dutjes. But
nothing in this act shall be construed to authorize the said Mayor and Coun-
cilmen to appoint or keep in their employ a standing City Attorney, but in
case said corporation should need an attorney, said Mayor and Board of
Councilmen shall employ an attorney in such specific case.
§ 2. That the Mayor of said city shall keep the records of proceedings
of said board, and he shall be allowed a reasonable compensation therefor.
§ 3. The City Council of said corporation shall receive no compensa-
tion for their services as such Councilmen.
§ 4. All improvements of the streets or otherwise in the limits of said
corporation shall be let out at public outcry, after giving ten days' notice,
by ten hand bills, put up in as many public places within the limits of said
corporation, to the lowest and best bidder, the undertaker giving bond and
approved security for the completion of such work or improvement.
§ 5. All acts or parts of acts inconsistent with this act are hereby re-
pealed.
This act to take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

ings of council.
