AN ACT to amend the School Law of Missouri.
Be it enacted by the General assembly of the State of Missouri, as
follows:
§ 1. In all the public schools in this State that are supported in whole
or in part by public school moneys, whether derived from State, County, or
Township funds, the teachers shall be required to understand the English
language; and where other languages are taught, the English language
shall be the medium of communicating instruction in those, as in all other
branches of study.
This act to take effect from its passage.

Be it enacted by the General .ssembly of the State of Missouri, as
follows :
§ 1. That in every case where a runaway slave shall be apprehended out
of this State, and delivered to the owner or other person claiming such slave
within this State, or to any Jailer or Sheriff in this State, the person so
apprehending and delivering such slave shall be entitled to receive the sum
of one hundred dollars, if such runaway is over the age of twenty years, or
fifty dollars if under that age, and also any other amount that way have
been offered as a reward by the owner or other person having authority
thereto, to be paid by the Sheriff to the person entitled to the same out of
the proceeds of the sale of such slave, when sold as a runaway : Provided,
That nothing herein contained shall be so construed as to exempt any inhab-
itant of this State from paying the compensation and reward to the taker
up of such slave out of this State, as is provided by the first clause of the
first section of an act entitled 1, an act supplementary to an act entitled
an act concerning runaway slaves,'  approved March nineteen, one thou-
sand eight hundred and thirty-five, approved March twenty-seven, one
thousand eight hundred and forty-five.
6 2. That whenever any runaway.slave shall be delivered into the custody
of any Jailer or Sheriff of this State, and it becomes necessary to publish
an advertisement concerning him in the public prints, he shall not be required
to publish such advertisement for a longer period than three months : Pro-
vided, That he shall publish such advertisement in three newspapers pub-
