contracting and being contracted with; of taking and holding by gift, pur.
chase, grant, devise or otherwise, and of conveying, leasing, or otherwise
disposing of any estate, real, personal or mixed, annuities and endow.
ments, franchises and other horeditaments, which may conduce to the sup-
port of said Academy, to the promotion of its objects, or be necessary for
its educational purposes, not to exceed fifty thousand dollars in value.
. 2. - The said corporation shall have a common seal, and may uso
and alter the same at pleasure; may suo and be sued, complain and defend
in any of the courts of this State.
§ 3. - The said academy shall be located in or near the city of St.
Joseph, in this State; shall have power to grant diplomas, award degrees,
and confer such honors as may be conferred by any female institute on
college in this State, or any other State in the United States.

AN ACT to incorporate Hopkins Lodge, No. 6, of Independent Order Sons of Malta.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows:
§ 1. - W. II. Brown, James Waters, Charles F. Cady, E. 1V. Fox and.
Kirk Anderson, and their regular successors under the rules, regulations
and by-laws that may now or hereafter be created, under the Grand.
Lodge of this State, be, and they are hereby, created a body politic and
corporate, by the name and style of  Hopkins Lodge, No. 6, of Indepen-
dent Order Sons of Malta; and by that name shall have perpetual suc-
cession and a common seal; and by that name are hereby invested with
power and authority to acquire, hold, possess and occupy real and personal
estate not exceeding $15,000, nod to sell and convey the same; to make
all by-laws, rules and regulations for it- own government, not contrary to,
the laws of this State; to contract and be contracted with, to sue and be
sued, to plead and be impleaded, to answer and be answered unto, in any
court of law or equity in this State; and control its own institution, or
any other which may come under its jurisdiction, by reason of any charter
which, under its rules and regulations, it is hereby empowered to grant
and establish, not contrary to the laws of this State, in such manner as it
may deem proper.
This act to take efr,-et and be in force from and after its passage.
