WhEnREs, Valentine A. Sublett, late sheriff of Lewis county, took up as
a runaway slave, a negro boy iinIed Alfred, an, d wa Sni Ijected to
the expenses on snid account, anl said slave afterwards escaped from
the Custody of said shvrill, and was ne-ver re-taken ; and whereas
the county court of said county allowed to said Silett the suni of
twenty-seven dollars, ald certified the same for paymient to the Au-
ditor of Public Aceounts, which was not paid by the Auditor, for
the reason that the law respectilig rullaway Slav es did )ot apply to
such a case ; Therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the S/ate fJ Missouri, (isfd/ows:
§ 1. The Auditor of Public Accounts is hereby required to draw his
warrant on the TIreasurer, in favor of the said Valentine A. Stublett, for
the sum  of twen(ty-sevhen dollars, out of any ioney in the treasury not
otherwise appropriate(d.
T his act shall take effect from its passage.
