SLAVES AND PERSONS 0F COLOUR.
AN ACT to prevent mischiof and dishonesty among Slaves and Negroqs 
and for oter.purposes.
Keepers of stores,  Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General .ssembly of the State
taverns, giocarieo, of Vissouri, That htiefter it shall not be lawful for tho
groganddrain shops keeper of any stole, tavern, grocery, grog, or dramI shop,
n0t ipernit sav. within this State, to permit or suffer any siaves, or-free

places.       persons olcolour, to assemble together, (other than his, her
or their own elaves,) -tt his, her or their store, tavern, gro-
cery, grog or dram shop, either In the night or day time,
and the more especially on the Sabbath day, commonly
called Sunday, unless such slave or slaves shalfbo express*
ly sent by his, her or their vister, mistress or overseer.
Personsoffonding a.  Sec. 2.  Be it further enacted, That if such keeper or

lineint  s han shall, at any time hereafter, sutffr or permit any slave tor
5nor inure than 5o 8l4ves, to assemble at his, her or their store, tavern, groco-

byajury rquired. either in the night or day time, unless sent as aforesaid,
he, she or they, so offending, for every such offence, shall
forfeit and pay a fine, not less than five nor more than fif-
ty dollars, at the discretion of the justice of the peace, who
shalthear and determine the same: provided, that said
