CHAPTER 134.
Pased Feb. AN  ACT for the relief of' Harriet Nelson, of
20, 1862.                 Worcester county.
'reamble. WHEREAS, it is represented to this General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That a negro man named
Noah, a slave for lifc, belonging to Harriet Nel-
son, of Worcester county, absconded from  his
owner into the State of Delaware; after pro-
ceeding but a short distance in said State, lie
voluntarily retraced his steps with the avowed
purpose of' returning to his owner; but on his
return he was apprehended and committed to
jail at Georgetown, in the State of' Delaware,
from which he was brought back into this State,
and is now in vVorcester county ; and whereas,
in the opinion of numerous slave owners, citizens
of said county, the contimled presence of said
slave among the slave i,,ulatiou would not be
detrimental to the public interest, 1)ut fron the
experience lie gives, rather calculated to deter
his fellow slaves from absconding; therefore,
Authority to  SECTION 1. Be it en actrl by the Gencral Assembly
retain ne ro
s'ewithin of   ayland , That the said Harriet Nelson, be and
the State.  she is hereby authorized to retain within this State
the said negro slave named Noah, as a slave for
life.
,III jree.  Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this act slhall
take effect from and after its passage.
CHAPTER 135.
Paed March AN ACT to add a new section to Article nine of
6, 1862.    the Code of Public Local Laws fbr Charles
county, to regulate the rate of Constables fees,
in said county.
Additional  SECTION 1. Be it enacted by lhe General Assembly
