CHAPTER 166.
AN ACT to incorporate the Village of Port To- us  F Febrit
bacco in Charles county.              17, 185R.
WIEREAS, it is rcprcscnted to this General Assein- Pro aml,
bly, that it would greatly contribute to the ad-
vantage and improvement of the Village of Port
Tobacco, in Charles county, if the same should
be placed under the care and regulation of cer-
tain Commissioners to be elected by the citizens
thereof, and vested with sufficient power to for-
ward and effect the purposes intended; Therefbre,
SECTION 1. Be it cnacted by the General Assem- fneoiors, a.
bly of Maryland, That the citizens of the Village
of' Port Tobacco in Charles county, shall be and
they are hereby constituted and made a body cor-
porate by the name of The President and Com-
missioners of the Village of Port Tobacco, and
and as such shall have succession, and by their
corporate name may sue and be sued, plead and be
impleaded, grant, receive and do all other acts,
as natural persons ; and may purchase and hold
real estate, and personal and mixed property, or
dispose of the same for the benefit of the said Vil-
lage, and have and use a common seal which may
be changed at pleasure.
SEc. 2. And be it enacted, That all free, white Qualification
male citizens of the Village of Port Tobacco afore- ofvotor.
said, above twenty-one years of age, who shall
have resided in said Village for the space of four
months, and twelve months in t'he State next pre-
ceding the election, shall on the third Monday in
April next, at the Court house in said Village,
and on the third Monday in April in each and
e.ery year thereafter, at such house as shall be
hereafter designated as the Town Hall, by the said
municipality, be authorised to elect five discreet
persons Commissioners for the said Village, who
shall have resided within the limits of said Village
for at least twelve months next preceding the elec-
tion.
S o. 3. And be it enacted, That any Justice of Firpt election.
the Peace for the county aforesaid, shall in the
first instance be the Judge of the said election,
who shall open the polls at twelve o'clock, Al.,
and close the same at six o'clock the same day ;
