Passed Feb 27, Preantble Mid Resolution in favor of.George W.
1850.            Goddard, and .ames T. Hayden.
WhEEAS, it appears to this General Assembly, that
George W. Goddard, and James r. Hlayden, of ShinI
Mary's county, at great personal risk to themselvus,
arrested in said countly, in the year eighteen hundred
and forty-eight, a free negro, owned James Stewart,
who had lied from Baltimore city, under the charge
of aiding, assisting and enticing certain slaves to as-
cape froma their masters into a free State; ,id whereas,
the said Stewart has been convicted of the said criine
and is now undergoing punishment therefor in the
penitentiary of this Suite; and wrht'us, it is ilopor-
tant that such services should meet with their proler
reward.-Therefore,
1?esolved lby the Gencirl .Isscutblqi of .Almu'/hn-J,
T hat the Treasurer of ihe State of Maryland, pay io
George \V. Goddard, and Jaines T. I layden, or to their
order, out of any titnappropriated tiotey in the Trea-
sury, the stu.,of one hundred and fifty dollars.

That the Treasuirer be and lie is hereby nuthorised to
pay to Thomas Burgess, late sheriff of 1howard dis-
Iriet, out of any tutapiroliriated money in the Trea-
sury, the sui of fourteen dollars anid twenty-six
cents, with interest from  the twenty-eighth day ot
April, eighteen huttndred and forty-six, it being six
per rent commhission oil seals and taxes, fines,. antd
flirfeitures, collected and paid by tile said sheriff it-
Ilia ''reasury of the State.
