CHAr. 115.                  CHAPTER 114.
Passed  A& act to allozo Henlry Devries,former collectorfoj st ate
Feb. 7, 1818 Taxes in Carroll County, further time to complete his
collections.
Time extend-  SE.CTION 1. Be it enacted by the General .fssembly of
et to collect- Jllrtrylittd, That Henry l)evries, tbrtner collector of
Stale taxes in Cai roll county, be anti he is heieby autho-
rised to collect atvy and all taxes or balances of taxes
due him and now remaining due and unpaid, for the se-
veral years in shlich lie was collector as aforesaid in
said county, in the same manner and with the same pri-
vileges and powers he could or might have done with-
in the lime limited by law.
Aftidavit to a . r:. 2. Alnd be it enacted Phat the said lenry
allmleXet| to ac *
Count.     Deviies, befbre he proceeds to collcct under and by
virtue of this act, shall make out and deliver to the per-
son or persons froin whom  any taxes or balances of
taxes may be demanded, an account of the taxes or ba-
lances of taxes due from such person or persons, and if
the amount claimed be disputed by the party, shall annex
an affidavit that the same is due and unpail'
In force.    Sgo. 3. Jd be it enacted, That this act shall take
elbet from its passage, zlnd continue in lorce until the
first lay of January eighteen hundred and fifty.
CHAPTER      115.

Toretainslave  Be it enac/ed by the General ./Jssembl ty qf Maryland,
in this State. That it shall be Iawful for F1dtinnd Davis, of Allegany
county, to told and retain in this State, as a slave for life,
a negro slave named Henry Demmit, who is now Within,
4'rvioes.  this State ; provided, that the said Edmund Davis shall,
within thirty days after the passage of this act, make
aflidavit before sotne justice of the peace of Allegany
counly, andl have the same filed in the office of the clerk
of Allegany county court, of' his intention to become ant
remain a citizen of this State ; andprovidcd also, that the
said Edmund Davis shall, within the time aforesaid, flic
with the said clerk a descriptioh of* ,;:id slave, with an
