Section 1. Be it enacted leg the General A(issembly of W
,lairelad , 'IlAt the Commissioners of Calvert county, or
a nalority, be. and tliy :re hereby milhorised and required
to levy n the asscsslcL prpulrty ot Calvert county, what-
ever suin they inay, ill their discretion, think requisite to
carry into ( idkt the provisins of' this act, for preserving,
repmarill and a vri I  the public roads ill said county.
See. 2. ./Ind be it cnacted, That lhe Commissioners of Api,t,,ient of
Calvert county, shall annually appoint one supervisor for ,,ivr,,.
every hundred as now laid out and known in said county,
whose duty it shall be, whenever requisite, to call upon all

hands, horses, or ploughs vill he wanting, and the place
where; and the person owning said hands, horses, or
ploughs, shall be c etitled to the tbilowing sums, to wit: w.g f,.,.
for each male above the age of eighteen years, and under
filly, the sum of fifty cents per day; for each male, under
the age of eigteen years, and for each female, twenty-five
cents per day; and for each horse and plough, fifty cents
per day; Ih'oridcd, however, that no person shall be corn- Limitation,
pelled, or be permlitted to send hands, horses, and ploughs,
or work upon any road after the amount due such person
for hire of hands, horses or ploughs, shall amount to the
full sum of their counly charges.
See. 3../nd be it encted, That no supervisor shall N1,,, of hands
work upon any road with a less number than four hands, limited
or a greater number than ten, and it shall be the duty of
said supervisors to make returns semi-annually, under oath, su ervors rport
to the said coommisionCrs, in writing, the number of hands
employed on each p-articUlar day, specifying the sex and
age, to whom belonging, and also the number of horses
and phou hs, and to whomn helonging; and the said corn-
iniissioters shall give to each and very lperson a certificate  'ertificatts for
of such aount as may appearl liom the returns of tlce  ' '.
