An Act appointing Commissioners for the regulation and improvement of the Village of Hillsborough, in Caroline County. 1822 14 (1822)

Dec. Ses. 1822 in ready money, and collect the amount thereof, as if the same
were inserted in the assessment list aforcsaid, and lie shall account
as aforesaid with the commissioners for the same.
Treasurer's  8. And be it enacted, That the commissioners aforesaid, shall
bond &c.    annually on the first Monday in May, or within ten clays thereafter,
appoint a suitable and proper person to he their treasurer, but before
he shall proceed to act as such, he shall give Bond to the said coin-
missioners with one good security in such sum as they shall re-
quire, with condition that he shall well and faithfully execute the of-
fice of treasurer of the board of commissioners of the town of Ens-
ton, and perform the several duties required of him by law, and the
orders and ordinances of the said commissioners, ind well and truly
account to them without default or delay, when and as often as he
shall be required for all sums of money paid into his hands by them,
or by their order or by any of their officers for them, then the above
obligation to he void and of no effect, otherwise to hc and remain
in ftll force and virtue in law, and it shall be the duty of the said
treasurer, and he is hereby required to keep a fair and regular ledg-
er, and account of all the monies tihat shall be .so received and Fnid
away by him as treasurer, and the said ledger shall be at all times
open to the inspection and examination of the said commissioners or
any of them, or of any other person or person concerned therein.
Compensa-   9. And be it enacted, That the commissioners aforesaid shall
tio, vacan- and may allow their clerk, bailiff, assessor, collector, clerk of the
Cies.       market, treasurer and scavenger or supervisor of the streets, res-
pectively such salary, compensation or commission as their services
shall in their judgment be reasonable, and if any of the said officers
shall die, resign, or refuse to act the said commissioners shall and
may in their discretion forthwith appoint another person to supply
his place, or if any of the said officers shall neglect his duty or mis-
behave in any way, the commissioners in their discretion shall and
may remove him and appoint another person in his place.  -
Repeal.     10. And be it enacted, That the eighth, ninth, sixteenth, seven-
teenth and twenty-eighth sections, and so much of the second sec-
tion of the original act to which this is a supplement as requires vo-
ters for the commissioners to have property in their possession of the
value of thirty dollars, be respectively and the same is hereby re-
pealed and made void.

inhahitants of the village of Hillsborough, that they labor under se-
rims inconveniencies for want of an act of incorporation; Therefore,
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
Iie That it shall and may be lawful for the citizens of the village of

1-illsburough to meet on the first Monday in April next, and annu-
ally forever thereafter at such place as they or a majority of them
shall appoint, and by ballot from amongst themselves, choose five of
the most discreet persons residents of said village as commissioners,
and in case an) of the said commissioners should die, refuse to act,
or remove out of the said village, the others or a major part of them,
shall elect some other fit and proper person or persons of the said
village to fill said vacancy or vacawAes until a new election shall
