Edward H. C Wilson, of Somerset county.          Passed Feb.22,
1822.
WHEREAs, It has been represented to this general assembly, by Preamble.
the petition of William Coleman, of Montgomery county, that he
owns lands in Loudon county in the state of Virginia, and in Mont-
gomery county in Maryland, which he cultivates; that it frequent-
ly becomes necessary for him to remove his negroes from his lands
in Maryland to Virginia for the purpose of cultivating them; and as
doubts exist whether negroes so removed, if they remain out of the
state more than twelve months at any one time, ace not entitled to
their freedom-Therefore,
SEC. 1. BE Ir ENACTED By the General A.9semblh of Ofariland,  My import
That it shall and may be lawful for William Coleman, of Mont- .
gomery county, and Edward H.C. Vilson of SomCrseCt county, to re-
move any slaves they now oVn, into and out of this stac for and
to the state of Virginia, as often as it may become necessary in their
opinion for the cultivation ofttheir lands in the two states.
2. AND BE IT ENACTD, That no such removal of the slaves of Not to be free.
the said William Coleman and said Vilson, shall be construed to
entitle them or either of them to freedom : Provided, they make a Proviso.

seting forth the object of the removal of said slaves, and cause the
same to be recorded in the clerk's office of their respective counties
before any such removal is made.

the jutices of the levy court of Calvert county, shall, and they are vied annually.
hereby directed and empowered at their levy court annually, to le-
vy on the assessable property of said county, so long as tley shall
see cause, for the support and maintenance of Jame, Simmons and
Mackall Dorsey, of said county, a suni of money not exceedingthir-
ty dollars; and the same when collected, shall be paid by the col-
lector of said county to Thomas Simmons and Mackall Dorsey, or
their order, for the purpose aforesaid.
CHAPTER 214.

BE IT ENACTED By the General Assembly oj iisryland, That Where. to hol
the judges of the second election district in Harford county, be, and elections.
they are hereby authorised and empowered to hold in future, the
elections in said district, in any house at Hall's Cross Roads, which
to them may be most convenient for holding the said elections, any
law, usage or custom to the contrary notwithstanding.
