chattels and effects, of what nature, kind or quality so-
ever; and tile same to grant, de'mnise, alien or dispose
of ; and by the name aforesaid, to do and execute all other

'any house which they may hereaftec possess, for the keep-
ing of the books and effects of- the society, exceed not
the sum of three thousand dollars.
2. AND BE I'L' ENACTED, That the said society,
and their successors, by the aforesaid name, shall be .br- Recognized in
ever hcrcaftcr, able and capable in law, to suc and be  law.

defend and be defended, in aiy court of record, or any
other place whatsoever ; and also to make, have, and use
a common seal, and the same Io break, alter and renvw
at pleasure ; and also to assemble and meet at suvl' times 'To asocnble-
and places as they may agrce tupon, and by a majority of. enact by-laws,
the voiccs of those attending, to ordain, establish, atnd  •
put in execution, such by-laws, ordinances and regula.
tions, as to them shall s'er necessary and convenient,
for .the governnent of the society and institution ; the
same not being contrary to the laws of this state, or of
the United States ; and generally to do and excento all
such acts, matters and things, as to them shall or may
appertain to do,
S. AND BE IT ENACTED, That until there shall
be, under this act, an election of officers necessary to the

till lawfully altered, be deemed as valid and obgatory,

ered, at their annual meeting, so long as they shall see
cause so to do, to assess and e  y oi the assessahle pro
perty of said county, a sum of money nut exceeding thil ty
dollar ,. towards the support and mair in ac of the Said
John Carman, his wife and three children ; whichi said
sum of money, when collected, ,hall i'c annually p:id
over by the collector of Anne Arundel county, to the
saidl John Carman, or to his order.
