To Incorporate the Town of Donaldsonville.
SECTION 1. .Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives

by that name they and their successors shall he henceforth known in law,
shall be capable of suing and being sued, defending and being defended,
impleading and being impleaded in aU courts and places whatsoever, and
in any and all manner of causes and actions shall he capable of arguing,
receiving, holding, farming, leasing or conveying, any property, real and
personal, of making any compromise, arbitration or transaction in regard
thereto; shall have authority to adopt a. common seal, and the same at
their pleasure to change or alter ; to erect such public works and build.
ings for the use and advantage of said town as they may find expedient,
Tares.     and also to lay and collect annually, a direct tax, not to exceed one thou-
sand dollars for the improvement and benefit of the same: Provided, if that
sum be found insufficient for the object and purpose of' said town, it shall be
lawful for the Mayor to call a meeting of the voters of said town by giving
at least five days public notice of such meeting, specifying the object
thereof; and the said meeting, when so assembled, shall have power and
authority, by a majority of votes, to order such further sum to be raised as
may be thought meet and expedient, and upon such order, the Mayor and
Trustees shall cause the additional sum to be assessed and collected, and
the same shall be appropriated to the use of the town.
In whom the  SEc. 2. Be it further enacted, 4-c.; That to carry out the foregoing
government of powers, the municipal government of said town shall be vested in a Mayor
e tow shal and six Trustees, to he elected in the manner following: First, the said
town being divided into three wards, the first extending from the middle of
Houmas street to the Bayou Lafourche; the second, from the middle of
H1oumas street to the line formerly separating the town of Donaldson and
Unionville; and the third, from the said line to the Church lands. All the
Quatification of inhabitants of said town who have resided therein during twelve months
voters.    preceding such election, and are qualified to voto for members of the Gen-
oral Assembly, shall, on the second Monday of*April in each year, between
the hours often A. M. and four P. M., at such place as may for that purpose
be designated, proceed to elect by ballot, and a majority of votes, a Mayor
and six Trustees, (two Trustees to be taken from among the residents of
each of said wards), who shall hold these oflices fbr and during the term of
one year thereafter, and until their successors are duly elected and quali.
Eligibility of fled. No one shall be eligible as Mayor or Trustee unless a male white
rutes.and citizen of the United States over the age of twenty-one years, and of actual
