AN ORDINANCE,
Relative to levecs in the parish of Concordia.
Whereas, by an act of the legislature of the state of
Preamble.  Louisiana, approved Pebruary seventh, anno domini
eighteen hundred and twenty-nine, and entitled <Au act
relative to roads and levees, plenary and unlimited
power has been vested in the police jury of the parish
of Concordia to make such enactments vith regard to
levees within the limits of said parish as they may
deem necessary and proper; Therefore,
Section 1. Be it ordained, by the police jury of the
Levees to be parish of Concordia, that throughout all the portion of

proprietors.  said parish watered by the river Mississippi, levees
being necessary to confine the waters of that river to
protect all the inhabitants against inundations, the said
levees shall be made by the riparian or front proprietors
of the lands in the manner, proportions and at the times
hereinafter prescribed, except in so far as is otherwise
provided by the provisions of an ordinance of the police
jury entitled  An ordinance to levy a special tax, and
for other purposes, ordained November seventeen,
eighteen hundred and forty-one ; and the better to

The first levee ward shall contain two levee districts,

imits.  upper line of the parish, on the river Mississippi, and
running down the river to the southern boundary of
township number eleven where it strikes the Missis-
sippi river, following said line due west to the Tensas
river, and up Tensas and Bayou Maqon so as to include
all the land north of the levee above described, east and
west, between township eleven and township ten.
The second levee district to include all the lands

The second levee ward shall contain four levee dis-
second levee tricts, as follows: the first levee district to commence
First levee at the upper line on the river Mississippi, running down

and including only the plantations or lands fronting on
the river Mississippi.
