No. 155---AN ACT to retrench the expenses of tie State of Louisionna
and to reduce the salaries and emolumenti of certain officers.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted, by the Senate and House
of Representatives of the State of Louisiana, in gene-
ral assembly convened, That from and after the expira-
salary of  tion of the term of office of the present governor of this
sovernor, state, the salary of said officer shall be six thousand
dollars per annum.
SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, 6,c., That from and
Sadere- after the first day of April, eighteen hundred and forty-
duced.     two, the salaries of the fbOloWing public officers shall be
as follows, to wit:
Secretary of state, two thousand dollars - - $2,000
Treasurer of state, four thousand eight hundred
dollars    -    -    -    -     -    -    - 4,800
Surveyor-general, six hundred dollars  -     -   600
Adjutant and inspector-general, two thousand
five hundred dollars  -    -    -    -    - 2,500
Interpreter of the Criminal Court, two thousand
dollars                         -    -    - 2,000
Clerk of the Criminal Court, eighteen hundred
dollars    -    -    -     -    -    -    - 1,800
State librarian, five hundred dollars  -    -    500
Chief warden of the Penitentiary, two thousand
four hundred dollars  -    -    -    -    - 2,400
SEc. 3. Be it further enacted, &c., That the second
rormer laws and third sections of the act entitled c An act relative
repealed.  to the Supreme Court,-approved February seventeenth,
eighteen hundred and twenty-one, be, and the same are
hereby repealed, and that all laws, or parts of laws
allowing compensation to any of the clerks of the
Supreme Court to be paid by the treasurer of the state
be, and they are hereby repealed, and that the first,
second and third sections of the act entitled An act
supplementary to an act entitled ' An act to establish an
explicit fee bill,' approved February twentieth, eighteen
hundred and seventeen, be, and the same are hereby
repealed.
SEc. 4. Be it further enacted, &c., That the salaries
thSaaries of of the following officers of the. penitentiary shall not
nofnlenear exceed the. following sums, viz.: the physician, one
thousand dollars per annum; the clerk, fifteen hundred
dollars; the second warden seven hundred dollars, and
the guards thirty-five dollars per month; Provided,
however, that the above officers may be employed by
