No. 124.-AN ACT to incorporate the town of St. Charles of Grand
Coteau, in the parish of St. Landry.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted, by the Senate and House
of Representatives of the State of Louisiana, in gene-
ral assembly convened, That all free male white citi-
Incorporation. zens of the United States and of the state of Louisiana
above the age of twenty-one years, who shall have
resided in the parish of St. Landry one year previous
to the passage of this act, and who, at the time of its
passage, shall reside within the limits hereinafter de-
scribed, be and are hereby authorized to meet on the
first Monday of May next, and if the election should
not take place on that day, then the said election shall
take place on the following Monday, and on the first
Monday of May in each and every ensuing year, for the
purpose of electing five persons, who shall constitute a
body politic and corporate under the name and title of
 Town Council of St. Charles, but no one shall be
eligible unless he is a citizen of the United States and of
the state of Louisiana, and resides within the limits of
said town, and moreover possesses therein a taxable
property to tile value of three hundred dollars, and is
abov- twenty-one years of age.
Sjc. 2. De it further enacted, t5fc., That the limits
um       of said town of St. Charles shall be as follows, viz.: It
shall have one square mile, of which the church shall
be the centre, that is to say, it shall have half a mile on
each front of said church, and shall form one perfect
square.
SEc. 3. Be it further enacted, &c., That the afore-
Elections.  said elections shall be held, viz., the first at the St.Charles
hotel, and the ensuing elections at such place as may he
hereafter designated by said corporation; said elections
to be held by ballot, and the ballot-box shall be kept
open from ten o'clock A. N1. until five o'clock in the
atternoon, under the superintendenco of the parish judge
