tute and define the authority and duties of the police jury of the
parish of Jefferson, and for other purpores, approved 30th of Jan-
uary, 1841.
SECTION 1. BCft cnactcd 6y the Senate and House
of Representatives of the State of Louisiona, in gene-
ral asi mbly convtni d, That besides the powers now
airher pow vested in the police jury of the parish of Jefferson by
era   It te laws in force, and especially by the act to which this

is a supplement, the said police jury is hereby further
invested with full and entire authority and power:
1. To establish, if they deem it expedient, such tariff
welgiu or as to them shall seem fit, regulating the weight and sale
bread,     of bread within the limit of said parish (the city of
Lafayette excepted.)
2. To establish, if they deom it expedient, such mode
as to then shall seem fit, to obtain the making and keep-
Repair or I. ing in repair the levees, roads, streets, bridges, ditches,

the whole parish of Jefferson, as well by the means
a] ready authorised by law, as by means of adjudication
of said works, to the lowest bidders and in advance, at
such times and places as to said police jury shall appear
convenient; and that in case the said police jury should
,see fit, as aforesaid, to cause the works aforesaid to be
-adjudicated by such officer as by them shall be pointed
out, the said jury is hereby authorised to pay the price
;of said works, either in cash or by means of bonds aid
notes issued in the manner and made payable at such
periods as to said jury shall seem fit. It being well un-
derstood that said jury shall retain for the recovery and
