An Act to amend the several Acts passed for the purpose of preventing slaves from being transported or conducted out of the state, against the will of their owners 1840 89 (1840)

exceediug one thOLNusand dollars or imprisonment not ex-
ceeding twelve months or both at the discretion of the
Court. should the person be a slave be shall on convic-
tion of said olence be condemned to receive twenty five
lashes in the jail of the Parish where said offence shall
have been committed and moreover to wear a chain in
the service of his master thr the term of twelvo months,
and it shall by the duty of' the Sheritr of the ditrerent
Parishes in which tIhe owneIrs of said slave iniilit have
their domicile to see that the full I execution of the above
penalties be carried into eifect.
S iec'r. 19. Br it further enacted, S-c., That the said
ba tripct Company may at any time durmin the continuance of
said road lay pipes oi or adjoining said Rail way for the
conveyatce of the water of the Mlississipi to said Lake
shore for the supply ofany buildings that nay be erected
at the Lake or along the said Rail way and of the ship-
ping and vessels which may frequent the wharves and
harbor and may erect all useful or necessary works there-
for, and the said Company shall have power to ask and
receive for water so supplied at a rate not exceeding fifty
cents per hogrselcad 1ofsixty three grallons.
